coach: grassland/草原
paid about $65 per pax for a return trip - a pretty good deal i would say! went on the super VIP bus. spacious seats, good leg space (im 1.73m tall btw, so if i say there's good legspace, there IS really good legspace)hotel: the 5 elements (chinatown area)
my colleague recommended chinatown area to me when i was planning for my trip. he mentioned Ancasa hotel and The 5 Elements hotel was pretty good. i chose 5 elements because of the economical factor - it was about 20bucks cheaper than Ancasa per night. with that savings i cn spend more on food &shopping, right? BUT! it was a bad choice!!!!! read on to find out why :]28 april 2012, day1 (WORST DAY EVER)
- yes, very unfortunately, it was the day of the bersih 3.0 protests -__- upon arrival in KL, my coach had to make turns and turns just because there were roadblocks everywhere!! we were supposed to alight at Imbi, and every path leading to Imbi was BLOCKED. spent an extra 1hr+ in the bus.
- finally reached our destination. bf &i had to take a train to Rakyat station. all the ticketing machines at Imbi station didnt accept our RM10, and we didnt have any small change on us. therefore, we went to the customer service counter and requested to buy a ticket. the officer was very rude, demanding that we buy the ticket from the machine. upon hearing that we had no change, she rudely replied "i also don have change!" while showing us her cash drawer. irritated, i answered her "THEN HOW I BUY?!". upon which, she got 2 RM5s from the neighbouring counter for us. in the first place, getting change from the next counter very difficult meh??
- finally got to Rakyat station. exited the station to see a huge number of people there for the demonstration. quickly made our way to our hotel. we were put on the 13th floor. once the lift door opened, what we saw was unused beds lying against the walls, &unused bedsheets lying on the floor. proceeded into our room, looked around. toiletbowl was not clean! was actually quite stained.
- requested to have a change in room, cuz of the dirty toilet &the 13th floor was not populated at all! we were the only human beings on the 13th floor. we also felt unsafe, cuz the hotel does not have a habit of locking their rooms when it is vacant. which also means that any stranger cn go into their empty rooms, do whatever they want (hide inside there, put a spycam, whatever). IMO i think its not safe to leave their rooms unlocked.
- headed down for lunch. the moment we exited the hotel, we saw a large group of the protesters heading our way. immediately made a turn and ate at the dimsum stall just beside our hotel.
- e demonstration got wayyyy outta hand, and during the time we were eating, the protesters were shouting, cheering, pointing their middle ringers at low flying helicopter, etc. and then, tear gas came. imagine while we were having our first meal in KL, we were fogged with tear gas. lagi best!
- headed back to the hotel cuz there was obviously no where we could go with those people around. even the shops in chinatown were not open on that day!
- when all has quieten down, bf &i headed down to chinatown for dinner &a walk around Petaling street. most of the stalls were not open. had dinner, went back to hotel to sleep. we thought that was the end of our very bad day. we were WRONG.
- at 1am on our very first nite, our room BLACKED-OUT. woke up from my sleep feeling suffocated. wtf right, where got hotel blackout one?? first time i ever experienced this shit. called the receptionist. he picked up, & i said.. "hi cn u come check the power on the 7th floor? it seemed to have cut off..." i havent finished my sentence and he hung up on me already -_-
- someone came up to the 7th floor, resumed the power &started BANGING on my door (yes, its not a "knockknock, room service" but a "bangbangbangbangbang" instead). we therefore replied "thank you! ok already", but that rude fella answered us "WHAT OK? YOU GOT ANYHOW USE THE POWER SUPPLY OR NOT??" NB!!!!
- FYI, there were only 3 power points at the table. among those 3, we were unable to push in our adaptor into 1, so we tried the 2nd one - able to push in, BUT NO POWER!!! so outta 3 we could only use 1 of their powerpoints.... to charge our mobiles. HELLO! you only let us use 1 powerpoint &u dare say we anyhow use it??
lucky for us, the next few days went pretty ok!
29 april 2012, day2
- headed to midvalley megamall. train transport to midvalley's not that convenient. their train interchanges are not like sg's - you'd actually have to walk quite a distance to change to the other line.
- lucky for us, midvalley was quite a nice looking shopping ctr! (not like jb's lok kok ones lah)
- walked around abit, decided to book movie tix (RM14 only!), did massage, did manicure &pedicure (for half of sg's price!). we were really enjoying our holiday on the 2nd day.
- spent the whole day at midvalley. lots of shopping, lots of food. its a good place to go to!
- headed back to the hotel &wished out aloud that there wouldnt b blackouts anymore. thankfully, there wasnt :]
30 april 2012, day3
- seeked some travel from my manicurist the previous day - she suggested us to go to Bukit Bintang - the Orchard Rd in KL
- had lunch at Jalan Alor. they have some pretty gd food arnd there! lotsa zi char stalls around.
- wandered around till we found KL's "Funan IT Mall. its called Plaza Low Yat. the only impression i had of that plaza was... "wakao the toilets sibei expensive!!! RM0.50 per entry -_____-"
- headed to Pavilion, what locals say its comparable to sg's Ion Orchard. true enough, i felt rly comfortable there - that mall had lotsa varieties of shops. walked, shopped, starbucks-ed, movie-d there.
1 may 2012, day4
- whole day (till 4pm before we boarded the bus back to sg) was spent at Imbi, Berjaya Times Square.
- all i cn say is that its the equivalent to sg's Far East - totally not my type.
so.. this sums up my trip to KL.
will i go back to KL, ever again?
prolly not :]
